Which gemstones match each anniversary year, and what bead sizes work?

How many 6 mm beads do you need for a gift bracelet or necklace?
Plan counts before you cut. On a 7.5 inch bracelet with a clasp, the beaded run is about 6 inches, so 6 mm uses about 25 beads. A 7 inch bracelet uses about 23 beads at 6 mm. An 18 inch necklace takes about 70 beads at 6 mm, and a 16 inch choker about 61.

What bead sizes make bracelets that actually hold up?
Daily-wear bracelets want tougher stones. We see sapphire, tourmaline, amethyst, lapis and turquoise do well in 4 to 8 mm, with 6 mm the sweet spot. For softer or brittle gems like pearl, opal and tanzanite, keep them for necklaces and earrings or use them as spaced accents away from the wrist impact zone.
Knotting between beads adds about 1 mm per knot to length, so size down or shorten your count if you plan to knot. Metal spacers near the clasp reduce rub on delicate beads.
Which bead shapes look best for anniversary gifts?
Bracelets read cleanest in rondelles at 4 to 6 mm, or 8 mm for a bolder stack. Necklaces string smoothly in ovals, rondelles or heishi for columns of color.
Earrings love movement and light, so use pears at 6x9 to 7x10 mm, or hearts around 4 to 8 mm. Rectangles create modern bar drops and simple focal pendants.
How long are strands, and will one cover a bracelet or choker?
Our Jaipur-cut strands usually run 13 to 16 inches. One strand covers a bracelet or a 16 inch choker, and two strands build a longer necklace. A 15 to 16 inch strand of 6 mm rondelles holds about 65 to 70 beads, and 8 mm rondelles about 48 to 52.
For a princess 18 inch necklace, plan about 16.5 inches of beads once you allow for clasp space. Two shorter strands can be combined for a matinee length.
How should we string softer anniversary stones?
We switch to necklaces and earrings for pearl and opal gifts. If a bracelet is a must, cluster just a few soft beads between harder spacers like sapphire or tourmaline and crimp covers at contact points.
