How many 6 mm beads do you need for a 7 inch bracelet?
Plan about 23 of 6 mm for a 7 inch bracelet with a clasp, or about 29 for a 7 inch stretch bracelet with no clasp. For quick reference at the same length, 8 mm uses about 17 with a clasp or 22 on stretch, and 4 mm uses about 35 with a clasp. What formula should you use to plan bead counts?
Use this rule: finished length minus clasp and findings equals beaded length. Beaded length times beads per inch equals bead count. Example for 6 mm with a clasp: 7 minus 1.5 equals 5.5 inches of beads, 5.5 times 4.2 is about 23 beads. Round up for a looser fit or down for a snugger fit.

Does a clasp or stretch cord change your count?

That is why a clasped 6 mm bracelet lands around 23 beads, while a stretch version uses the full 7 inches and lands around 29 beads. Apply the same logic to other sizes using beads per inch.
How do spacers, charms, or a focal affect your math?
Measure the total width of non stone parts that live in the line of beads, then subtract that from the beaded length before multiplying by beads per inch. Count metal spacers and rondelle separators the same way, by their widths. Add or remove one bead at the clasp if you need a tiny fit tweak.
How many beads are on a strand we sell?
On a 15 to 16 inch strand, 6 mm rondelles have about 65 to 70 beads, 8 mm have about 48 to 52, and 4 mm have about 95 to 100. Will knotting between beads change your length?
Knotting between beads adds about 1 mm per knot, so you will need fewer beads to hit the same length. Calculate the knotted build by adding the total knot length to your bead run, or by reducing the bead count until the test strand measures correctly. Always test string several inches before committing the whole bracelet.
